Hi, I really need some advice. I am dating a Catholic man who God has seemingly put in my life with great purpose and we also seem to be perfect for each other in every way. However, my family doesn't like him. I know the bible says to obey our parents and while they haven't flat out told me not to date him, I know they'd prefer it if I didn't. What should I do?
Thank you for your question.
It is a difficult position to be in, but you must trust that your parents know what they are doing.
Your parents take precedence over your boyfriend, I’m afraid, because God commands us to honour our parents so that our days will be well.
Until you get married and your father hands you over to your husband, which makes you subject to him, you must obey and submit to your father.
Being traditional, feminine and Catholic also entails being receptive, responsive and submissive to the male headship that God has placed over you, beginning with your fathers…….and afterwards, your husband.
One thing you can also do is pray for your parents as well as your boyfriend, and God might soften their hearts, allowing you to date or interact with your boyfriend…..IF it is His Will.
Hope this helps.
